Pickles have been a part of the culture and history for 4,000 years. The technique of pickling originated in India and nowadays it becames the part of every kitchen.
Pickles ''Achar in Urdu'' are specifically most liked in Pakistan, Bangladesh and India around the globe. The word “pickle” comes from a Dutch word ‘pekel’ or northern German ‘pókel’ meaning “salt” or “brine,”. These two components are the essential credentials in the process of pickling. Pickles go through the process of pickling in order to preserving or expanding the lifespan of food. Meat, vegetables, and fruits are used for making pickles it is the diet of many people and everyone has beautiful memories of their grandparents relating to it.

Have you ever thought while having a pickle as to where it originated from? Is there any history of Pickles? The answer is yes. It is a history of around thousands of years back, dating as far back as 2030 BC as it began at 4000 years ago in India. Pickling was very useful way to preserve non-seasonal food which could be used for a long journey especially by sea (for sailors and travelers).

Achar is favorite of every Pakistani family and loved by the people of all generations. It is a must part of meal in breakfast, lunch and dinners. The ideal combination of pickle is to eat it with traditional Pakistani dishes like dal chaawal and halwa puri in breakfast.
